World of Learning Academy is Andrea Velandia’s dream come true. In 2008, together with her husband, Wilson, Mrs. Andrea opened the doors of World of Learning Academy--and hasn’t stopped since. She has dedicated her life instructing herself on how to be an effective teacher by focusing on children’s individual needs and interests. She believes that teachers have an everlasting impact on children that shapes who they become as young adults and hopes that the education she offers at her school will positively influence generations to come. WOLA will be expanding at its current location for the 2011-2012 school year. The expansion includes various upgrades to the existing facility, a larger playground with new play sets, and four new classrooms to accommodate more students. Mrs. Velandia’s vision is to open several schools in Broward County within the next five years.

Kelly T. Garcia

Kelly Garcia first came to World of Learning Academy in the summer of 2008 when she enrolled her son, Joshua D. Pearl in to the preschool program. Her background in communications allowed her to work in the school office, while completing her studies at Florida International University. Ms. Garcia now works closely with WOLA Corp and its administrators to effectively develop internal communication material create written content for the school’s website and worked as creative director for the school’s Apple Accreditation process. Ms. Garcia is proud of her work and relationship at WOLA, because it has given her the opportunity to play an active role in her son Joshua’s early childhood learning experience, while making friends for a lifetime.

With her patience and dedication, Silke Angulo wins the trust and respect of both her students and her coworkers. She began as a teacher that through hard work and dedication completed her training and education needed to now form part of the management team. As WOLA’s Assistant Director, she oversees the daily management of the office and ensures parent/teacher involvement in all activities. Mrs. Angulo grew up in New York City and has been residing in Florida with her family since 2005. She feels that teaching gives her the opportunity to contribute to future generations and aspires one day to be a school director.

Sonia joined the World of Learning Academy family in 2012. Her love for children helps her to be extra patient and encouraging with the toddler group, who are beginning to discover the world around them by expressing themselves with new words, sounds and feelings. She incorporates Art into her curriculum to help develop fine motor skills by giving children different tools and methods to create projects during class time. Sonia describes herself as a happy, loving and caring person.

Wendy Bravo joined the World of Learning Team in 2011and has five years of experience working in an early childhood setting. Her teaching style involves interactive communication to encourage children to express themselves and learn respect for others.

Ms. Witherspoon brings lots of energy and a youthful spirit to her classroom. She believes that working with children is a virtue and requires unmeasured patience. Her biggest gratification is when her students embrace her and show that they look up to her and believe in her. Ms. Angelica aspires to one day take all of her experience and open her own daycare facility. Until then, she plans to continue working with children in a way that promotes personal and academic growth, taking the time to relate to her students in a way that she, too, can learn from them.

Ms. Carmona teaches two’s children at our school. Once she completes her degree, she aspires to continue working in a preschool environment because she values the importance teachers have on young minds. She feels satisfied knowing that she will have a lasting impact on each child she teaches, even after they graduate from her classroom.

Vanessa Castaneda has led the Voluntary Prekindergarten Program for the past three years. With a defined and well structured three-part curriculum, Mrs. Vanessa masters the task of preparing students for the important transition of entering kindergarten. She believes that her experience, together with the clear and specific curriculum implemented at her school, she offers a strong foundation for the next step in development both personally and academically for her students. She considers herself a dynamic, proactive, and hard working individual that enjoys her job as a teacher.

Lucia Davila is one of our preschool teachers who enjoy teaching because it enables her to enhance children’s imaginations through creative learning. A mom of four, herself, Mrs. Davila’s organizational skills and responsible personality helps her keep control in the classroom while always making learning fun.

Mrs. Botero is a great asset to the World of Learning Academy. Since her start in 2009, school age children have benefited from Mrs. Botero’s creative and outgoing personality. She provides homework help and one-on-one attention to her students, teaches kids with problem solving skills by suggesting alternative solutions to issues, and asks open-ended questions to encourage creative thinking skills. Her teaching style is based on modeling appropriate and positive behavior to her students, and showing interest in the individuality of her students in order to make them each feel valued and special.

Mrs. Montilla contributes greatly to the positive environment and energy experienced at World of Learning Academy. Her early professional background is in business administration and marketing, but her passion for children and education has led her to continue a path where she can influence children’s lives through teaching. Mrs. Montilla has formed part of the WOLA family for 2 ½ years and feels that the key to teaching children lies in setting a good example as adults, teaching norms of good conduct and having open communication with children to answer their needs and questions at all levels of development. She enjoys attending teaching seminars to continue acquiring skills and methods to be able to plant a positive seed in each child that will stimulate and enhance growth now and through the future. She is currently on a personal leave while expecting a baby girl in early September. Everyone at WOLA wishes her many blessings in her new role of motherhood, and look forward to having her back soon.
